In the absence of a report from the Czech Republic for this taxon, surrogate data were provided by ČSO / BirdLife indicating a breeding population of 12000–24000 pairs, with a fluctuating trend during 2000–2012 and an increasing trend (18–104%) during 1982–2012, plus a winter population of 3480 individuals, with a fluctuating trend during 2000–2011 and an increasing trend (248%) during 1980–2011.

In the absence of a report from Greece for this taxon, surrogate data were provided by the Hellenic Ornithological Society (HOS), the BirdLife Partner in Greece, indicating a winter population of 491–5982 individuals, with a decreasing trend (60%) during 2004–2013 and a decreasing trend (60%) during 1982–2013.
